Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
